POL OPUESTO WINES, MALA HIERBA BONARDA 2017
POL OPUESTO WINES, MALA HIERBA BONARDA 2017
Pol Opuesto was created to shine a light on lesser-known grape varieties farmed using minimal-intervention, organic practises. Headed up by American-born Pol Andsnes, who scoured the globe looking for the perfect vineyards which matched his vision, before settling on Argentina, where there is a plethora of unloved and under-appreciated varieties which make amazing wine, but are currently destined for cheap blends or fruit juice. Pol is on a mission to spread the word that there's more to life in Argentina than mass-produced Malbec, and we're all here for it.
Mala Hierba 2017 is made from 100% Bonarda - the unsung hero of Argentinian reds and incidentally also Pol's favourite variety. He spent 5 years searching for the perfect Bonarda site before discovering an old, high-altitude vineyard in the Uco Valley. An awesome, intense, concentrated red with notes of black plum, black cherry, fig and clove. The palate is juicy and fresh, with well-integrated tannins and a great spicy finish.
